Stephan Michael Pinckney was born in Stuttgart, Germany to Samuel Marion Pinckney Jr. and Ella Ruth Vaughn-Pinckney and as the son of a Foreign Service Officer traveled extensively all over the world at an early age calling home to several South East Asian cities including Phnom Pehn, Cambodia Bangkok, Thailand, Rangoon Burma and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In returning to the United States, he lived in Granville, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Bowie, Maryland.
Stephan graduated from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia and graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Stephan developed a fine eye for photography, which started during his undergraduate years at Morehouse College. A self-proclaimed Photo-Hobbyist for more than three decades, he considered himself a student of photography and was known to develop and print his own black and white film. Stephan’s enthusiasm for photography gave him opportunities to be a contributing photojournalist for several newspapers, periodicals and magazines.
Over the years, Stephan’s passions included being an avid boater (member of the Coastguard Auxiliary), boxing fan, Formula 1 racing follower, gardener, culinary enthusiast, beach devotee, fashion maverick, animal lover, movie buff and art enthusiast. His incredible wide-ranging personal art collection spans time, continents and genres.
Over the years, Stephan has held leadership positions at Smithkline Beecham and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In 2018, Stephan retired from the Federal Government and was able to enjoy more time with his family and friends.
The essence of Stephan can be defined by his ever-generous spirit, tender soul, gregarious sense of humor and penchant for bringing people together. Stephan is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Kim, their cats Gracee and Grayson, his brother Samuel Marion Pinckney III, sisters Sandra Maria Pinckney of Summerton, NC and Susan Margo Pinckney of Charlotte, NC., sister-in-law Yvette Denise Mason of Bala Cynwyd, PA as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and legions of friends.
A visitation for Stephan will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715. His funeral service will begin at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial is to follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
