

Steve was born on June 3, 1955, in Batavia, New York, to his late parents, Robert and Gloria Toal. He proudly served in the United States Army, with postings in Kansas and Germany. He later settled in Crofton, Maryland, where he built a life centered on family, service, and dedication.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Cheryl Toal.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Laurine Desir-Toal; his children: Heather (Chris) Martin, Julie Toal (Les Barlow), Pamela (Robert) Wissinger, and Steven Toal Jr. (Stephanie Hunter). He was a proud grandfather to Kiara Wheeler, Jada Dunlap, Ameera Ayaz, Anees Ayaz, Nathaniel Wissinger, and Brooke Toal, and a cherished great-grandfather to Graecyn, Kaiden, Myles, and Artisse.
He is also survived by his siblings: Debbie (John) Misuraca, Laurie Otis, and Robert Toal Jr.; along with many nieces and nephews, including Chris Ross, John Misuraca, Justin Misuraca, and Deanna Misuraca.
Steve is further remembered by his extended family, including his mother-in-law Cynthia Montoute; sisters-in-law Janelle and Sherkel; and many dear friends and loved ones, including Pamela and Jack Derrico, Sherma and Bazil Edwin, Mummy Dodo, Tansy Alexander, Drechelle, BJ, Zayne, Almando Rigby, Lisa, Tua, John, Marcus and Whitney, Vernon Montoute, CJ and Jael, Darron and family, Patricia and Dave Jackson, Pastor Morris, Linda Teel, PJ and Phil, Lynn and family, Sue and family, Pam Wisniewski, Bill Zurfas, Betsy and family, and many others whose lives he touched.
Steve had a distinguished career as a software engineer with NASA, where he took great pride in his contributions, including his work on the Hubble Space Telescope. In his final days, he found joy in watching the Artemis II mission.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Steve cherished time spent with his wife, especially traveling and creating lasting memories together. He loved taking walks and spending time with his beloved dog, Daisy. Known for his quick wit and playful unpredictability, he often joked, “That’s what they would expect me to do.” Above all, Steve deeply loved his wife—never leaving the house without a note—and often expressed gratitude for her role in bringing him back to the Lord.
A service to honor Steve’s life will be held on April 21st at 11am Largo Community Church visiting will be at 10am followed by a brief interment at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
Light refreshments will be offered at the church following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Steven’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Steve will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
