

Susan R. Bielski of Severna Park, Maryland, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born on the North Shore of Long Island, Glen Head, New York, on June 29, 1936, to Oscar and Ruth Samuelson. Sue lived an active and full life as a devoted daughter and sister, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Sue attended SUNY Oneonta, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Elementary Education. She married Ensign Herb Brand, whom she met in college, in 1960. Sue and Herb traveled the world, visiting many ports and cities in their first years of marriage. She was a dedicated teacher at many duty stations including San Diego, Alaska, Hawaii, Arlington and Norfolk, Virginia. While stationed in the Aleutian Islands, she started a Nursery School in a Quonset hut that eventually moved into a permanent building and remained an essential part of the base support to families for 25 years. While stationed in Hawaii, Sue was elected President of the Naval Communications Station, Honolulu, Wives Club, providing much needed support to the crew and staff of commands on the island.
Upon settling in Springfield, Virginia, she continued her education in the emerging field of computers and Information Technology. She spent the next 18 years as Administrator for Ball Aerospace Communications. While at Ball, she held several elected positions in Women in Aerospace, of which she was elected President in 1992. She raised her two children, Eric and Amy while working full time, remaining active in the local community, schools, and business organizations.
Sue married Dr Peter Bielski, of Annapolis, Maryland, in June 2000. She retired in 2001, continuing an active life including golf, travel, and substitute teaching. She was a substitute teacher in Anne Arundel County Schools for 10 years and remained active, travelling to visit her friends and family across the country. She volunteered with Caring Collection making stained glass angels, the sale of which provided proceeds used for equipment for cancer research at the Anne Arundel Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital Oncology Centers.
Sue is survived by her husband, Peter Bielski, her children Eric Brand, and Amy (Kirk) Novak and Amy’s children, Zach, Nathan and Valerie Novak. She is also survived by her sister, Leila Newman of Midlothian, Va. Sue was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Meyer. Sue will be missed by Peter’s children, Patricia (Bill) Patterson, Peter T (Carol) Bielski, Gayle (Robert) Steinke and Jacqueline (Kenneth) Walls and grandchildren, Stephen, Jordan and Brian Patterson, Joy (Taylor) Keller, Catherine Patterson and Allison (Ben) Patterson, Bridget (Ryan) Sharlow, Jacqueline Bielski, Meredith and Corey Steinke, Kenny (Mariel) Walls, Ryan (Cristina) Walls and Carolanne Walls and their 8 great grandchildren.
Services will be at Robert E. Evans Funeral home, on Saturday January 4th, 1600 Annapolis Rd, Bowie, Maryland. Viewing/Calling hours 10:30-11:30, funeral service to follow at 11:30. Light refreshments will be provided after the service, before Burial at Lakemont Memorial gardens, 900 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, Maryland.
