Surrounded by love and faith and facing her illness with courage, strength, and dignity, Verdune Louise Duelley, lovingly known as “Weezie”, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away peacefully from this side of Heaven and into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born in Centralia, West Virginia in June, 1942, she is the daughter of Roscoe Theodore Mace and Lora Hall Mace, sister of Phyllis (George) Honaker; and preceded in death by brothers Roy (Nellie) Mace; Norman (Orphia) Mace; Almond (Orphia) Mace; Robert Mace; Buford (Nancy) Mace, wife of Berlin Duelley, Jr., and mother to Cheryl Hinchliffe and Christopher Allen (Mary Beth) Duelley.
Verdune lived a life full of joy and generosity. Known affectionately as “Weezie” she had a deep, abiding love for children. For many years, she was the warm heart and steady hands behind Duelley Family Daycare, where many children took their first steps, learned their ABCs, and felt as safe and cherished as if they were in their own homes. Weezie recounted many times that at the end of every day, children would hide from their parents, begging for just a few more minutes in her care. Weezie ran her daycare as a sacred privilege to shape and nurture kind spirits.
Weezie’s creativity knew no bounds; she not only possessed a profound love for children but a passion for crafting and creating with her hands. She loved everything from making her own custom lamps and creating vibrant art with marbles to beautifully sewing clothes and keepsakes for those she loved. Her creative spirit also extended throughout her kitchen, where she loved to cook and bake for those she loved.
Weezie’s heart belonged to Jesus, her beloved “Duelley”, her siblings, her children and their families, and a circle of friends from her immensely loved Village Baptist Church. Her absolute greatest pride and joy in life was her expansive family legacy including her grandchildren: Christina Davis; Christopher Allen (Lauren) Duelley, Jr.; Summer Louise Ann (Cole) Poncheri; Anabell Elizabeth Celestino; Lincoln Lorenzo Celestino; her great-grandchildren: Jesse (Charlotte Tompkins) Sitler; Derek Sitler; Olivia Marie Duelley; Grayson Ryan Poncheri; Kaylee May Duelley; and another precious great-granddaughter to arrive soon; and great-great-grandchild Tristan Sitler.
