September 13, 1940 – July 16, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Eugene "Buddy" Gerard Chamberland. Known for his honesty, reliability, wit, and loyalty, Gene left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Eugene was the devoted husband of Jacquelin Chamberland (Miller), and they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. He was a proud father to Dan Chamberland (Cindy) and Paula Chamberland, and was predeceased by his son, Todd Chamberland. Gene's legacy continues through his 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Papa”. Gene was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Muriel Chamberland (Ott), and is survived by his sister, Nancy (Kenneth) Bremer.
In 1977, Gene and Jacquie purchased a 29 acre onion farm in Clarence and built a home. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed cutting the fields with Paula sitting next to him on the wheel well of the tractor. He cherished the tradition of attending races with his father and continued it with his own children, spending many nights with Dan and Todd at the Lancaster Speedway.
Gene was a hardworking entrepreneur and built his business, Chamberland Vinyl Repair, from the ground up. He was also a founding father of the Lou Gehrig Little League Association, ultimately serving as a coach and President of the league. After leaving the organization, he told his colleagues that he would find free land to build baseball diamonds on. Only 3 months after they had laughed at this seemingly unrealistic goal, Gene secured donated property at the intersection of Smith and Dann Roads. He described this period of his life as “a lot of work but a lot of fun”.
Since 1989, he and Jacquie enjoyed wintering in Daytona Beach, and in his later years, he enjoyed serving as an Ambassador at the Daytona Beach Airport. As a NASCAR enthusiast, one of his favorite stories to tell was when he and his lifelong friend, Dennis Campbell, roasted a pig in the parking lot at the Indianapolis Speedway. They were approached by both the police and fire marshall, both of whom said to “let them know when it’s ready” before leaving them to continue with their mischief.
Gene passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. There will be no prior visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory.
