Matthew J. Schunk

January 16, 1964 – July 28, 2023
Obituary of Matthew J. Schunk
IN THE CARE OF

Danzer, Dengler & Roberts Funeral Home

Matthew J. Schunk, 59, of Rochester, NY, died unexpectedly on July 28, 2023. His death was unexpected and his family is shocked and devastated.

Matt was born January 16, 1964 in Paterson, NJ to his predeceased parents, Sarah McAteer and William Schunk. Matt attended Holy Family School in Leroy, NY where he was an All-Star basketball player in the 8th grade. Matt attended Notre Dame High School in Batavia, NY where he was passionate about his many friends and always having a great time anywhere he was, including in class. After graduating from Batavia High School in 1983, Matt eventually moved to Greenwood Lake, NY with his longtime partner LuAnne.

The first of their two beautiful children, Amanda, was born during that time. The second of their wonderful children, Joshua, was born two years later.

Matt spent nearly all of his adult life framing luxury homes from NY, NJ and the Lake Norman, NC area.

Matt spent much of his free time loving his family, including his two children, his grandson Dean (whom he absolutely adored) and his surviving brothers and sisters Maureen, Christopher and Thomas, their spouses, their children, and his “grand-dog” Dio. Matt is survived by his two children, three siblings and his beautiful grandson.

Anyone that truly knew Matt knew he was a wonderfully kind, loving and caring father, brother, uncle and friend. Matt was a beautiful man with a beautiful soul that always enjoyed a good party and was typically the center of the fun. There wasn’t a mean bone in his body and he was an incredibly patient, kind and tolerant man.

Matt loved classic rock; Zeppelin, RUSH, Eric Johnson and Steely Dan among his many favorites. He was quite the source of music knowledge from albums, members and deeper understanding of the time, place and true meaning of countless songs. His love of music wasn’t limited to classic rock as he was nearly as knowledgeable of country, disco (absolutely loved The Bee Gees) and even classic Soul.

Matthew was a deeply spiritual person with a deep knowledge and grasp of the Bible as well as Catholic tradition. Matthew received his Final Rights, and passed peacefully, and with so much love, into Eternal Peace.
