Maureen was the driving force behind restoration of our family Bennet cemetery on Walden Ave.  She was extremely helpful and considerate when dealing with us, as recently as the the fundraiser at the Stage.  I came across this notice when checking on the status of the new building.  My deepest condolences to the family of this wonderful lady.  I will miss the friendly conversations we had when she had questions or news to share.

My deepest condolences. I am profoundly saddened to learn of Maureen's passing. I’ve only known Maureen for the past several years while doing research on my books.
She was always so helpful and knowledgeable on so many topics and always had time to help. Her kindness, expertise, and willingness to assist will be dearly missed.

My wife and I served on the Cheektowaga Historical Association for several years. At the time we had the occasional encounters with Maureen Gleason. We admired her dedication to the Town of Cheektowaga. Maureen was hard-working, professional, knowledgeable and personable. Her passing is a great loss to our Town and she will be very much missed.

I did not know her well or was able to meet her in person, but she was a tremendous help in an ongoing research project I have been working on for the past three years.
Anytime I had a question, I would email her and she would email back with tons of information, and always prompt with her answers.

I connected with Maureen in the past couple years and immediately felt her passion for ancestors and history.  Before the Christmas 2024 holiday I reached out to her for information.  I learned her relative was an organist who used to make the oplatek, which was a tradition for organists that I read about in early 1900s Buffalo newspapers. In my research of Polish diaspora history, I continue to find online content written by Maureen.  I will miss all the wisdom she could have shared had I just asked the right question!  Maureen's passing is an unfortunate loss for many of us who more recently started our ancestry research in Cheektowaga.  I appreciate all she documented for researchers now and into the future.

We are extremely sincerely sorry for the loss of such a wonderful Beautiful ANGEL who walked among so many people's lives. As a cousin through the Pruchniewicz Spychaj families, her compassion, knowledge and always helpful. She even in her final year of life helped my cousin Barbie Lucas Behring, find another family member's grave at St. Stanislaus. Thank you for sharing her with us. There's never enough gratitude to Maureen Gleason for her generosity and thirst for recording records that were lost. God bless you all. My great great grandmother, who immigrated from Poland, passed away in Buffalo in 1902. Last year, I petitioned the City of Buffalo, Erie County and New York State for her death certificate and was told by all that nothing could be found. Then my cousin referred me to the Polish Genealogical Society of New York State and within minutes of joining, Maureen found my great great grandma’s death date and burial location, information that was not available on Ancestry, FamilySearch or FindAGrave. With that additional information I was able visit Buffalo in September 2024 to get a copy of her death certificate from Buffalo city hall and visit her grave at St. Stanislaus.  Her tombstone has been demolished in a cemetery brush clearance event more than 60 years ago, (Maureen told me about) so her exact burial plot was difficult to locate. I could tell it was difficult for Maureen to walk the cemetery but there she was helping me, a virtual stranger, connect with my ancestor in a most meaningful way. With Maureen’s assistance I was able to order my ancestor a new headstone. I will never forget her selflessness. May her family take comfort in knowing their loved one had such a big heart.  Although I only interacted with her that one occasion I felt like she was a friend.

O Lord, please console Your faithful servants as we mourn the death of Maureen our friend, who in life brought great happiness, comfort, joy  and friendship.  In Your mercy, grant that Maureen may rest in peace.  Eternal rest grant unto Maureen, O Lord, and perpetual light shine upon her.  Our condolences to Maureen's family.

Maureen was a kind and helpful women passionate about the organizations to which she belonged.  I met her decades ago when she took me for a tour of the Polish National Catholic Church Cemetery in Cheektowaga. She told me great stories about how her father had been the organist for the church and how the place was much more than just headstones to her because of that connection.  We kept in touch every since and she helped me with local research on my own family history projects.  We exchanged opłatek in our Christmas cards each year. It was our way to share the holiday from far away.

May she rest in peace knowing how many people she helped in her personal and professional life. Sto Lat.
