Of Barker, New York entered into rest on January 10, 2025, age 80. Beloved husband of Stella (nee Kowalczyk) Bates. Loving father of Donna (Jay) Yu, Doreen (Paul) Lundquist, George (Helen) Bates, Kathleen McDowell, Phillip J. (Myra) Bates, Anna Dorn, Lisa Roberts, Michael (Joanne) Roberts and Duane (Amy) Roberts. Survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Son of the late Lillian and Daniel Bates. Brother of Daniel (Theda) Bates and the late David Bates. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Phillip was born in Pittsburgh, PA and worked for Vulcan Mold Iron- Co. and was President of his Local Union 758 for many years in Latrobe, PA. He also worked for Loyal Hanna Police Department and Ligonier Valley Police Department and was Police Chief for Barker Police Department in Somerset, NY. Phillip was active in the Barker Lions, Mason and American Legion and Barker Seniors. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Pittsburgh Penguins fan and a veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard, serving in the tank division. No prior visitation.
