William Drescher

William Paul Drescher, 68 passed peacefully on June 9, after a long battle with glioblastoma. Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Bill graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High School in 1969. After earning his Master’s in Graphic Design from RISD in 1984, Bill worked as a designer for many years before becoming a college professor, where he found his true calling in teaching young people. Bill made it a priority in life to connect with people. In his last months, he often told his daughter, “you are the glue” (that holds everyone together), a trait she undoubtedly learned from him. When news spread that he was receiving hospice care, an awe-inspiring number of family and friends reached out to share their thoughts and memories. It brought Bill and his family great happiness to learn that he made a difference in so many lives. Bill will be loved and missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Ryan Dimock; grandson, Callum Dimock; siblings, Jean (Mike) Malucci, Joseph Drescher, Elizabeth Drescher, Michael (Mary Ann Gallagher) Longpockets, John Drescher; many cousins, sister-cousins, nieces and nephews; and several life-long friends who were of great support to Bill and his family during his illness, among them, Dan Blatz, Paul Boyle, Steve Cammilleri, Greg Haberstro and Paul Leous. Bill’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Jacobus, Adam, Marquan, Jenny and all who took such loving care of him while he was in hospice. A mass will be held at O’Hara at a future date.

  • A Mass to be held at a later date

Sharing the graphic design graduate studio at RISD in the early 80s with Bill was a highlight of that whole crazy, challenging, and rich experience. His wise wit, steady nerves, ability to solve any problem, and warm friendship helped me through. He and Todd Cavalier were like my 'big brothers' in the studio and we had so many laughs together—that bearded smile and those sparkling eyes! I send my deepest sympathies to all of you as you carry on without him. We're all so lucky to have shared time with Bill; he was a real gentleman designer, and a truly wonderful human being.
