Ethel May Sands, 99, of Sassamansville, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Sassamansville where she remained a resident for more than 94 years before gracing the halls of Amity Place in Douglassville with her harmonious personality.
Wife of the late William ‘Bill’ W. Sands and daughter of the late Martha (Kulp) and Oscar Reinert, Ethel was a sister to the late Linwood Reinert. She is survived by her son Richard ‘Rick’ Sands and his companion Janice Endy of Boyertown; her granddaughter, Angela, wife of Vince DiGiosia of Alburtis; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Skye, Nicholas and Nathan DiGiosia also of Alburtis.
Ethel worked for the Bauman Apple Butter Factory and the Sassamansville Clothing Factory, both in Sassamansville, where she met the love of her life. Bill and Ethel married, carrying on their love story for 67 years. Her greatest love was her family and the contentment of a simple life. She loved maintaining her home and spending time with family. Strength and a ‘good-natured’ personality remain the cornerstones of Ethel’s life. She was known simply as ‘Nana’ to many and will always be remembered for her pleasant nature.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Amity Place, who lovingly became her extended family, as well as Season’s Hospice for their care and compassion.
Funeral Services will be held at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc. 111 North Reading Ave. Boyertown, PA. 19512 on Thursday, June 21 at 11:00 AM.
