

Harvey R. Miller, age 86 years, son of Peter Calvin Miller and Elizabeth Monberger, husband of Jeanette (Brintzenhoff) Miller. They were married 63 years. He was born January 22, 1925 in Washington Township in a house only about 1,000 feet from his own house, where he died Thursday, May 18, 2011, being cared by his children and granddaughter.
He served in WWII, being only 20 years old when it ended. He was a member of the Army, serving with Company K, 27th Infantry Regiment with the rank of Private First Class. In the Army he was a Truck Driver and a Scout during combat operation in the Pacific. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star Medal. He was wounded in action at Luzon, Philippines for which he received the Purple Heart.
He worked for a brief time for Bally Case & Cooler and A.D. Moyer Lumber yard before gaining employment at Bethlehem Steel, Pottstown Plant. After retiring from Bethlehem Steel with 31 years of service he ran and was elected to Supervisor of Washington Township where he served for 12 years. He was also Roadmaster for the township.
He retired to his home on Hillcrest Road, that he built himself in 1950, after receiving training for masonry from the GI Bill.
He was a Forest Fire Warden in District 17 for the Bureau of Forestry and drove ambulance for the Bally Ambulance Association. He was a member of Goodwill Fire Co., Bally, Volunteer Barto Fire Company, community Fire Co. #1, Seisholtzville, Liberty Fire Company, New Berlinville, Keystone Fire Company, American Legion Post 184, Bally Sportsman’s Association, Hereford Gun Club, Kutztown Rod and Gun Club, Pikeville Sportsman’s Association, and the Nimrod Fish & Wildlife Association. Harvey was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Bally.
Surviving with his wife Jeanette, his eight children, Peter J., Paul H., Michael A., Thomas R. , David J. Miller; Carol A. Saylor, Susan J. Miller and Tracy Roberts. He has 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother Percy N. Miller. He is predeceased by his parents and a brother John C. Miller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 610 Pine Street, Bally.
A viewing will be Wednesday between 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in Most Blessed Sacrament Church Cemetery, Bally.
