Born in Pike Twp. He was the last surviving son of Anna (Levan) and Leon Groff.
He was employed AW Mercer as a shop worker for many years. He last worked for WM. R. Gift as a truck driver for over 32 years retiring in 1999.
John was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Oley. He also served on the cemetery board and was a member of the church’s dart league.
He was a life member of the Boyertown Rod and Gun Club and he helped at every shoot until last week. John was a social member of the Earl Township, Oley and Bechtelsville Fire Companies. He was active in the Earl Township Historical Society and he loved hunting, fishing and taking things apart.
John is survived by his children, Judy L. wife of Jacob W. Dautrich of Fleetwood, PA. Jane A. wife of Robert Hetrick III of Panama, NY. And John J. “Chip” Groff husband of Angela L. of Jeromesville, OH. Grandchildren, Renee Mast, Megan Lutz, Jenna Crills, Heather Hetrick, Shelby Connell and Julie Dautrich. Great Grandchildren, Tristin, Nathan, Logan, Wyatt, Connor, Oaklynn and John Thomas coming soon. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy wife of Walter Delong of Oley. John is predeceased by his infant son James L. Groff who passed away in 1969 and his great granddaughter Charlotte.
Funeral Services will be held at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc. 111 North Reading Ave. Boyertown, PA 19512 on Thursday August 24, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
Visitation will be held Thursday August 24, 2023 from 11:00 to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Oley Cemetery Spangsville.
