Born in Sassamansville, PA he was the son of the late Edwin R. and Beulah (Benfield) Mathias.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sassamansville, PA. For 25 years he was a truck driver for Roadway Express where he received the safe driving award. Lester enjoyed Nascar Racing, Motorcycle Rides, Traveling, especially loved to work in his garage and going for breakfast. Lester who at one time was a milk man, met a girl at Nester’s Dairy, she eventually would become the love of his life and wife for the last 61 years, Betty Mae. Lester was also a well-known tinkerer, spending endless hours in his garage, he especially loved to bend ones ear, when it came to discussing his tinkering.
Surviving with his wife, Betty Mae, of 61 years, are two daughters, Dolores VanHorn of Boyertown, and Debra Lynn Jaggers fiancée of Stephen Shoffstall of Bechtelsville; two sons, Kenneth, husband of Monica Mathias and Mark L., husband of Tina Mathias both of Boyertown; son-in-law, Doug VanHorn of Boyertown; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Rodney, Jade, Devon, Maggie, Holly and Eric; eight great-grandchildren, Aiden, Kellen, Landon, Melody, Jonas, Brenden, Josalyn and Dominic. Lester was predeceased by two brothers, George and David; a sister, Mary and predeceased by a grandson, Anthony.
Funeral Services will be 12 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc., 111 North Reading Avenue, Boyertown.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday between 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Sassamansville.
