Marlin was born in Thomas Mills, PA. On July 11, 1931 to the late George Sala and Annie Pearl (Thomas) Sala. He was a graduate of Conemaugh Township High School and Goshen College. He earned his master’s at Penn State University.
During the Korean War, he served in the Federal Government’s IW program for conscientious objectors at Harrisburg State Hospital.
He was a guidance Counselor in the Phoenixville Area School District for 33 years.
He was a longtime member of Boyertown Mennonite Church, serving as a lay preacher, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, superintendent and elder.
A descendant of members of the Soap Hollow School of furniture makers, he was an avid woodworker and provided toys and home décor for his church’s annual bazaar.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Elaine (Hershberger) Sala. His sons, Ronald husband of Rebecca (Ames) Sala of Stamford, CT. and Gregory Sala of Gilbertsville. Marlin is predeceased by his brother Raymond and his wife Romaine (Stahl) Sala.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Boyertown Mennonite Church, 275 Mill Street, Boyertown on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. Funeral Services and interment will be held at the same place on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the church.
