With sad and broken hearts, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved brother, Paul J. (Butch) Martin, on Monday, May 24, 2021, at the Reading Hospital. Paul was born in Berks County, PA on February 1, 1945, the son of the late Harry I. Martin and Margaret Elizabeth (Drake) Martin.
He graduated from Phoenixville Area High School Class of 1963. Shortly after Graduation, Paul answered the call to serve our nation in the United States Army. After his Boot Camp training at Fort Bragg, NC, his military Orders sent him to Vietnam with his tour of duty at the Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base. With the passing of Paul's step-father, while Paul was overseas, he answered the call 10 months later to return home to be a helpful provider for his mother and siblings
Paul was on the Norristown Softball Hall of Fame "All-Century Team" First Team as a hitter. He started playing Baseball in the Phoenixville YMCA League with his nephew, Bob Martin. Paul was on "The Senators" team and Bob was on the "Tigers" team. Later, he was well known for his home run hitting power in Fast Pitch Leagues and Tournaments throughout Pennsylvania. When he switched to Slow Pitch, he played in the YMCA League, the Phoenixville Community League, and the Pottstown Community League. Once again, he was well known for his home run hitting. Most recently, he played with the Berks Senior Softball League.
Meeting the needs of his family and enjoying times with his nieces and nephews, friends, co-workers, teammates, or neighbors was always his highest priority. Besides being our beloved brother, Paul was a wonderful son, a fun-loving Uncle, an honorable Vietnam Veteran a thoughtful caretaker of the elderly, and an amazing, respectful neighbor. He was so dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his siblings: Ruth A. Olkewicz, Spring City, PA; Margaret L. Ervin, Lumberton, NJ; John H. Martin, Myerstown, PA; Joan C. Whited, Limerick, PA; Linda L. Hallman, Pottstown, PA; Richard C. (and Cynthia) Martin, Pottstown, PA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings: Charles A. Martin, Elizabeth M. Klerr, J. Eleanor Jacobs, Harry I. Martin, Jr., Robert L. Martin, and Shirley A. Yorgey.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and heartfelt appreciation to all who loved and cared for our brother. We know he loved each of you a bundle as well.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Paul's memory, if so inclined to do so, donations can be made to a charitable cause of your choice.
