
Born in Sassamansville at home. He was the last surviving son of Katherine and William Matz.
Richard was a self employed Masonry sub contractor. His legacy is in hundreds and thousands of homes that will stand for decades to come in the Montgomery and Berks county areas. His second passion in life was gardening, which he excelled at remarkably.
He served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam war during 1967-1968.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Stephanie L. Levan of Wyomissing. A Step Son, Glenn R. Given, husband of Allison M. Given of Wernersville. A Granddaughter, Jacalyn Trotter. Step Granddaughter, Aislin V. Given. Sisters, Catherine Thiel and Nancy Pedersen. He is predeceased by his eldest daughter Amy L Matz and his siblings, William “Bill” Matz, Charles Matz, James Matz, John "Jackie" Matz, Agnes Parker and Dorothy Moser.
A graveside service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery with military veteran burial honors in Sassamansville, on Saturday June 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Boyertown Multi Service Unit in Boyertown Pa at which Richard has donated literally tons of his home grown produce to over the years for those in need.
