

Born in Boyertown, he was a son of the late Irene E. (Schlegel) Frain and Elmer S. Frain.
Always hardworking throughout his life, Robert started young, selling papers, plucking chickens, and working on a baker route with his father.
He was a 1941 graduate of Boyertown High School, serving as Class President, and was a member of the Cross Country and Track teams.
He was employed by Dana Corporation for 36 years and served as a Manager of the Heat Treat and Lab departments. Robert was a lifetime member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boyertown, teaching 5thgrade Sunday School with his wife, and serving as an usher team captain.
Robert served in the US Navy during WWII, serving in the Torpedo Squadron 16, based aboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 67 years, serving 30 years as Scoutmaster of Boyertown Troop 3 (Troop 503). During Robert’s time of scouting he was an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver and the God and Country Award. For his dedication and many years of service to Scouting in Boyertown, Robert was honored as the Boyertown Jaycees Man of the Year for 1969.
After retirement, Robert became interested in genealogy, tracing his family routes. He and his wife even traveled to the Granit Mountain Records Vault in Salt Lake City to conduct research.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia F., wife of Gary Conrad of Malvern and JoAnn, wife of Richard A. Magners of Martinsburg, WV.; and his son, Robert B. husband of Kim D. Frain of Boyertown; grandchildren, Kristin J. Conrad, Jeffrey S., husband of Amber Gabel, Jonathan husband of Shelby Gabel and Matthew D. Gabel, Joel R., husband of Perry Frain and Todd M. husband of Adrian Frain; great-grandchildren, Mason J. and Colin J. Gabel, Evelyn C., Elizabeth P., Trevor J., Norah J. and Charlie L. Frain; his brother, Jack S. Frain and two sisters Jean S. Moyer and Barbara A. Dotts. He was predeceased by his brothers, Howard S. and Richard S. Frain.
Funeral Services will be held at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home 111 North Reading Ave. Boyertown, Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 11:30 AM.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:30 AM.
Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Pottstown.
