Sadie T. Treichler Bittenbender

Born in District Township, she was the daughter of Newton E. and Mabel (Hartline) Treichler.

Sadie devoted her life to the business she and her husband owned, Bittenbender’s Food Market, in Bechtelsville. They opened the store in January of 1948 and Sadie could be found working behind the counter up until the day the store briefly closed in 2004. “Most people want a 40 hour week,” said Sadie, “We don’t mind long hours.”

She enjoyed traveling with friends, singing karaoke, and playing BINGO.

She was a member in good standing of the Keystone Fire Company #1 of Bechtelsville, as well as a charter member of their Ladies Auxiliary; a lifetime member of Huff’s Union Church; served as Judge of Elections in Bechtelsville Borough, was named “Outstanding Woman in the Pennsylvania Food Industry,” and in 2007 was inducted to the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame for having voted at every November election for 50 consecutive years.

Sadie is survived by a daughter, Kathryn, wife of Robert Isett, of Bechtelsville; a granddaughter, Patricia (Dee), wife of Kenneth Berger of Bechtelsville; a grandson, R. Frederick Isett, husband of Rachel of Barto; great-grandsons Kenneth Berger, Jr., Thomas Berger, and Ryan Isett; and great granddaughter Lauren Isett. She is also survived by a sister, Virginia Swavely of Fort Wayne, Indiana and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Clyde Treichler; and a sister Kathryn Longacre.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Huff’s Union Church, 540 Conrad Rd., Alburtis, PA 18011. Visitation will be from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Friday at Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, 111 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, PA 19512 and 1:00-1:45 p.m. on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be made in Sadie’s name to Huff’s Union Church or Boyertown Area Multi-Service, 200 W. Spring St., Boyertown, PA 19512.
