Siegrid lived an adventurous life. Born in Bamberg Germany she was the second oldest of 7
brothers and sisters. She immigrated to America in 1950. Upon her arrival she worked as a
Nanny in Gross Point Michigan for Ralph Wilson the owner of the Buffalo Bills, taking care
of his three daughters. After 2 years Siegrid returned to Germany to marry her husband
Ortolf. She returned and soon after Ortolf followed.
She raised five children always making sure they were well taken care of. She was very
meticulous in everything she did, from keeping a nice house, to ironing almost every piece
of laundry and folding it with precision. Once her children entered school, she began
driving school bus for Levy Bus company and was the first driver to have a wheelchair lift on
her bus in the area. She drove handicapped children, including her son Andrew, to
Montgomery County Intermediate School. She was very passionate about taking good care
of all her passengers. Siegrid also worked at the Pennsburg Manor for 25 years. There too
she gave many hours of loving care to her patients. Many times, working double shifts if the
staff was shorthanded so the patients would get the loving care that she felt they deserved.
Later, she worked as a mail clerk at North American Drager where her husband worked,
commuting together daily. She was well known by everyone in the company and was
always happy to lend and hand or have a comforting word to those around her.
After retiring she traveled extensively with her husband throughout the country in their
motorhome. She visited all the states but Hawaii. She was the trusted copilot of her
husband, and they spent many years visiting the most beautiful areas of the country. In
later years she spent winters in Florida with her husband and enjoyed being a yearly
snowbird.
In her golden years Siegrid enjoyed knitting, mostly baby booties, stitching them full of love.
She would always offer the booties to expecting mothers she would meet on her travels.
She also loved to quilt and cross stitch. She enjoyed sitting at any body of water to fish. She
would sit for hours whether the fish were biting or not. She would also love to swim, and the
colder the water the better. She had many close friends at the East Greenville Senior
Center and went as often as she could. She was devoted to her church, Most Blessed
Sacrament in Bally and would make sure to get her pew every Sunday at 7:30am mass.
