

Terry R. Mest, age 83, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025, peacefully at home. He was the husband of 57 years of Sandra K. (Losh) of Boyertown, PA. Born in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Anna Dorothy (Nyce) and Jonathan Leroy Mest of New Hanover Township.
Terry attended school in Schwenksville as a young boy until his family moved to Gilbertsville. He was a 1959 graduate of Boyertown High School and enjoyed helping plan and attend class reunions.
He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Obelisk, and was a former church council member. He was active in the community, serving from 2008-2022 as a member of the Boyertown Borough Council. He was a charter and life member of the former Kiwanis Club of the Boyertown Area (1986-2016) and had served as president and was the editor of the club's monthly newsletter.
Beginning when he was in high school, Terry was an employee of Kawecki Chemical Co. in Gilbertsville, which was acquired by Cabot Corporation in 1978 and sold to NGK Metals in 1986. He retired in 1996 after 37 years with the company.
During the Vietnam Era he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA, and in South Korea.
Terry attended night classes at Ursinus College and in 1977 graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. In his position with human resources at Cabot, he served on the United Way of Boyertown for many years.
After retirement he worked for several years at CVS in Boyertown, primarily in the photo lab. Terry was an avid amateur photographer, and always had a camera with him. He enjoyed taking family and event photos, and he enjoyed family vacations to the mountains and shores for nature photography. He was a member and former officer of the Berks Camera Club (Berks Photographic Society).
He was also a charter member of the Boyertown Area Historical Society and enjoyed visiting the local museums: General Carl Spaatz National USAAF Museum and the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles.
Terry enjoyed the music of Jimmy Buffett, Longacre’s ice cream, trips to Shady Maple, breakfast at Burger King, and Jeopardy. He had a good sense of humor, and always had a silly joke ready to share.
Terry is survived by his daughter Linda K. (Mest) Famous, Boyertown; grandchildren Joshua J., Miranda K., and Lucas J. Famous, Boyertown; a sister, Joan (Mest), wife of James Millard; nieces Deborah (Sharp) Kolb, Terri (Millard) Staso and Lori (Millard) Weiss; and nephew Darvin Sharp.
Services will be held Friday, June 20 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Obelisk, 3206 Big Road, Zieglerville. Friends and family may call Friday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Services will begin at 11 a.m. and a luncheon will follow.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown. Arrangements are being handled by Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc., Boyertown.
