Born on September 11, 1945, in Providence, Rhode Island, Carolyn lived a life centered on faith, family, and the simple joys that brought people together. She graduated from Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Florida, and later attended beauty school, becoming a hairdresser for several years. She eventually began working for American Greetings, where she dedicated more than 30 years.
Carolyn was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Her family was at the heart of her life, and she took great joy in spending time with all of them.
Carolyn and her husband, Tony, shared 50 incredible years of marriage before his passing in 2024. They loved spending time together. Every time either of them came home, the other would greet them at the door with a kiss. Tony grew vegetables and grapes while Carolyn grew flowers at the home, he built for them and their family on 7 acres in 1980. They shared a beautiful life raising their children and enjoying their son’s baseball games, where Carolyn proudly wore her “Richard’s Mom” t-shirt; she served in Sunday School, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and ballet. Carolyn enjoyed coffee, dessert, crafting, cooking, conversation, and time with Nichole. Carolyn and Tony celebrated birthdays, family vacations, graduations, weddings, time with their grandchildren, and every small moment in between. Carolyn would often call Tony when she was headed home, so he could put on a pot of coffee for them to share. Carolyn loved Tony with all her heart.
Carolyn was incredibly proud of her three grandchildren and was filled with joy at the arrival of each of them. She loved showing off their pictures to everyone. When Grandma came to visit, her grandchildren would wait eagerly at the window for her to arrive. They also knew there would always be ice cream in her freezer, a room she had decorated just for them, and their favorite foods waiting for them at Grandma’s house. They have cherished memories of Christmases, and summers at Grandma and Pop’s. Carolyn loved watching them run and play in her field and being there for their events and activities. She treasured trips to parks, museums, and farms, as well as simply sitting together and listening to what was happening in their lives. More than anything, she loved spending time with them and being part of their world.
Carolyn was a founding member of Christ the King Episcopal Church in Lakeland, Florida, along with her parents, John and Mary Conn. She served as a Sunday School teacher for children, including her own, and enjoyed serving on the Altar Guild alongside her mother. Her church family and friends were an important and lasting part of her life. She enjoyed bringing fresh eggs, baked treats, and muffins to share with friends at church—reflecting her generosity and the joy she found in caring for others.
Carolyn’s home and table were places of welcome. She loved preparing homemade meals and inviting family and friends to share a meal with her and Tony. Her brothers would often call to ask if she had spaghetti and meatballs in the crockpot, to which she always replied yes, letting her know they would be there soon! She enjoyed celebrating with others and had a way of making people feel included, welcomed, and at home. Whether sharing coffee, a meal, conversation, or a game of cards, she valued the everyday moments that built lasting bonds. And, of course, she had a card for every occasion!
She found happiness in many interests, especially her church, her family, time with her grandchildren, antiques, sewing, gardening, flowers, and tea parties at a local tearoom. She loved watching the birds visit her feeder and birdbath and tending her garden, always eager to point out new flowers when family came to visit.
Those who knew Carolyn will remember a woman devoted to her family, committed to her church, and generous in the ways she shared her time, food, and friendship. She especially enjoyed celebrating Christmas and other holidays, birthdays, and accomplishments with the people she loved, finding joy in their milestones and in the time they spent together.
She is survived by her son, Richard, and Alyssa; her daughter, Nichole, and son-in-law, Sean; and Sean and Nichole’s three children, Kassidy, Joshua, and Aniyah. She is also survived by her brother, Steve, and sister-in-law, Rita; her sister-in-law, Christi; her brother-in-law, Michael, her nephew, Chris; her niece, Michelle, and Michelle’s son, Henrique; her niece, Lisa, and Lisa’s husband, Keith, and their sons, Copper and Ziggy; her nephew, Daniel, and Daniel’s wife, Claire, and their sons, Evan and Jacob; and her lifelong friend, Nancy Carroll.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony M. Lowery; her parents, John and Mary Conn; her brother, John Conn; her brother-in-law, Jimmy Lowery; and her sister-in-law, Laura Lowery.
Carolyn Conn Lowery will be remembered with love by all who knew her. She often reminded her loved ones, “I am proud of you, and I will love you forever, you know that.”
