Daniel "Dano" Joseph Laird passed away on July 5, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on April 8, 1955, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dan spent most of his life in Sarasota, Florida, where he built a life filled with family, music, and countless projects. He was the kind of man who rarely met a problem he could not solve and was happiest when he had something to fix, improve, or build.
Dano spent his career selling heavy equipment, a profession that suited his love of machinery and his ability to connect with people. He was endlessly curious and never passed up an opportunity to learn how something worked. Whether he was repairing an engine, finding the newest gadget, or adding another DeWalt tool to his collection, he was always tinkering. If something broke, everyone knew Dano would find a way to fix it.
One of his greatest sources of pride was his Chevrolet Avalanche. He replaced nearly every part over the years, from the air conditioning to the transmission. People often asked why he did not just buy a new truck, but Dad would tell you there was not another one out there that had been cared for as well as his.
Music was another of Dan's great passions. He loved singing and playing his collection of guitars and often filled the room with the country music he loved.
Dan also had a deep appreciation for God's creation. He loved photography and was always on the lookout for wildlife to capture on camera. Whether it was a bald eagle soaring overhead, deer wandering through the trees, or otters playing in the water, he was quick to grab his camera.
Above all else, Dan was a devoted father and an extraordinary grandfather. His children were the center of his world, and his seven grandchildren were his greatest joy. He loved them fiercely and never missed a chance to tell them so.
Some of his favorite memories were made coaching his children's soccer and baseball teams. He loved being on the sidelines, encouraging and cheering them on. That same enthusiasm never faded as a grandpa. He treated every game like a championship and watched as if they were playing in the pros.
He celebrated every accomplishment. He proudly printed every report card, hung every piece of artwork they made, and never stopped telling them how proud he was. His unwavering support and unconditional love shaped their lives in ways that will last forever.
Dano loved his extended family deeply and shared a special bond with his nephew Ryan, who held a meaningful place in his heart.
Dano will be remembered for his generous heart, his endless curiosity, and his ability to make the people around him feel loved. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the lessons he passed down and the memories that will continue to bring smiles for years to come.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Margaret and Frank Laird; his sister, Maureen; and his brother, Michael.
He is survived by his children, Jessica (Brett), Joey (Nadia), and Megan (Marc); his cherished grandchildren, Kara, Wyatt, Roya, Colton Daniel, Bennett, Rayna, and Laina; his brothers, Jim and Pat (Micky); his nieces and nephews, and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever miss their beloved Dano.
A celebration of Dan's life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages everyone to honor Dan by spending time with those they love, lending a helping hand, fixing something instead of throwing it away, turning up a favorite country song, and making memories with family.
