Donald Warren Wright, 89, passed peacefully into the Light of Eternal Life on December 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Don’s life was one of deep faith, devotion, and kindness, and his presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Don was the devoted husband of Mary, his wife of 67 wonderful years, whose enduring love was the foundation of his life. He was a loving father to their five children: Steve (Diane) Wright, Janice Garton, Sue (Steve) White, Judy Plahn, and Joan (Marc) Ludtke. He was blessed by his ten grandchildren—Michael Wright, Andrew Wright, Justin (Kate) Garton, Collin White, Kendall (Scott) Thow, Kelsey (Andrew) Miller, Jordan (Mary) Plahn, Brianna (Jason) Losego, Ethan Ludtke, and Callie Ludtke—and ten, soon to be eleven, great-grandchildren, who will continue his legacy.
Don is survived by his sisters, Fay (late Duncan) LaVigne and Joan (late Jerry) Moloughney; his sister-in-law, Jane (late Robert M.) Wright; and many beloved family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren W. and Helen Fahy Wright, and his brother, Robert M. Wright.
Born on October 13, 1936, in New York City, Don moved to Cincinnati at a young age. He graduated from St. Xavier High School and Xavier University, studied for the priesthood at St. Gregory Seminary, and later honorably served in the United States Army. Don enjoyed a successful career in the corporate world before becoming a business owner alongside his wife, Mary.
Don was actively involved in his church for many years, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and participating in the Human Concerns Ministry. He was deeply committed to fundraising and supporting programs for Childhelp USA, dedicated to the treatment and prevention of child abuse. Don was an avid golfer and spent 20 cherished years playing golf with the “Bunker Boys” in Virginia, a group of friends he held close to his heart. He also enjoyed gardening, sports, and rooting for Xavier University.
Don was deeply loved by all who knew him. A humble man of strong moral character, he was a true gentleman and one of the kindest people one could know. His love, laughter, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held on January 31, 2026 at 11am at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, in St. Joseph’s Chapel, 12905 State Rd. 70 East, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202. A private burial will be at a later date.
