

Ed was born on October 8, 1931 to Dr. James and Alice Cahill in Syracuse, New York. He was the first of four boys and spent his early years in Syracuse. He attended high school at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse and graduated in 1949. Afterwards, he attended the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1953. Ed served in the Notre Dame Air Force ROTC program and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force in 1953. He was assigned to the Air Force's Office of Special Investigations and proudly served his country during the Korean War.
ln 1956, Ed was recruited to work for the Central Intelligence Agency in Langley, Virginia. At the ClA, he was assigned to the Office of Security where he spent the next 26 years working domestically and
overseas. He held many managerial positions including serving as a regional security manager overseas. He also was in charge of the CIA Director's security staff. Through his Agency career he met many
interesting people and traveled around the world. He retired in 1982 and received the Career Intelligence Medal for his outstanding work.
Following his retirement, Ed worked on contract with the Agency. He was the Director of Security at the Corcoran Museum and School of Art. He also held positions with various government contractors
including The Analytic Sciences Corporation, MRJ, General Dynamics, CACI International, and Raytheon. He retired from working in 2010, after an intelligence career that spanned over 50 years.
Ed lived in Northern Virginia, while he was working. Then in 2010, he and his wife moved to Florida. They lived initially in Bradenton, then moved to Lakewood Ranch in 2014. More than anything, Ed loved his
wife, his son and his son's family. He also loved his two dogs-Winston and Alfie. He was a generous, kind, and extremely considerate man. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Ed is survived by his wife Kathleen Maloney. He is also survived by his son, Steven (Kimberly), his grandchildren Killian and Katelyn, many nieces and nephews, and former spouse Barbara Cahill. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers.
Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Robert Toale & Sons Celebration of Life Center at Lakewood Ranch 4310 Solutions Lane, Bradenton, Florida 34211. A Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Martha's Catholic Church, 200 N. Orange Ave, Sarasota, Florida. After the Mass, a burial will be at Sarasota National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
