My friend and colleague Joan was such a special person.  We worked together at Longwood high school.  We started our days together often since we both arrived at work earlier than most.  Rest in peace Joan!  Love you

Joe and I became best friends during our service as Chinese linguists in the Air Force on Taiwan 1965-66 and we shared many memorable times together during that tour. Thereafter,  I had the distinct honor of being asked to be Joe’s best man at he and Joan’s wedding in 1968. Joan’s sister, Lorraine, was the maid of honor. In the early 70’s while working for an American firm on Taiwan, I returned to NY on vacation with my own young family, and  Joe and Joan graciously welcomed us into their home on Long Island for several days where we met little Jay and Jennifer for the first time. When I had to give up my beloved young Weimaraner “Monk” to take that overseas job, who stepped in to adopt him and love and care for him until he was 14? Of course it was selfless Joan and Joe! Although I’ve lived in Texas for over 40 years now, our friendship has endured, but the sadness of Joan’s passing underscores how precious our limited time together really is. So very sorry. Joan and I are  “sisters” through having been presidents of the NYS Association of Foreign Language Teachers. Joan did things with that “lesson plan” professionalism in all her positions. Peace to you all. Again so sorry.

My deepest sympathy to Joe and all of Joan's family on the loss of an exceptional lady.  I worked with Joan at Longwood High School for many years going back to the time that Joan was pregnant.  I recall Joan as an outstanding teacher and leader in her field.  Joan's intelligence, discipline and kindness are what I remember the most.  After we retired, I enjoyed being a part of our gourmet group in which Joan's skill as a hostess brought joy to those of us who were fortunate to be invited into her beautiful home.  With prayers for Joan and her family as they grieve her loss.

Joan , Joe and  I worked together at Longwood for many years .  I am so saddened  to hear of her passing .  She was truly a wonderful woman and  I am blessed to be able to call her my friend .  She is forever in my heart .  May she rest in peace .

Joan and I met in the 1980’s while I was serving on the Long Island Language Teachers (LILT) Executive Board. Joan was a colleague of mine,  teaching second languages in the Longwood School District, while I taught Spanish in the Kings Park School District. She was always someone with original ideas, yet respectful of yours. Joan’s bright eyes and big smile lit up any room she entered, and it was a natural progression for her to became the President of LILT! The second language field is poorer today due to Joan’s passing. She will never be replaced.

My deepest sympathies to Joan's family. We met through the Loving Stitches ministry at Our Lady of Angels. As fellow quilters we had much to talk about. When I was struggling to learn how to use my fancy new embroidery machine Joan printed instructions and even came over to teach me how to use the machine. She made a quilt, with a matching pillow, which will be donated to the Tunnels to Towers project. She was generous and fun to be around. She will be missed. May she Rest In Peace with Jesus.

I am truly sorry to hear of Joan's passing.She was a colleague  and friend in the foreign language dept of Longwood HS in Middle Island where we taught for many years.


If there were a designation "mr and ms Longwood", Joe and Joan would win first prize! They went together like peanut butter and jelly. 
Joan's dedication to her career included ongoing trips to Paris for students and faculty, although despite Joan's wincing, on one occasion the teachers ate McDonalds exclusively!
Wherever JnJ went - laughter followed. She knew the funniest ways to keep Joe in check. Again hilarity filled the air when she gave him 'the look'.
For several years we participated in a gourmet group... you know of course who lit up the room. 
If you were really fortunate you got to marvel at the Christmas decorations joyously filling every nook and crany.
Joan was an incredibly gentle and caring woman. All of us benefited from her friendship. Her memory is a blessing.

I was stunned to hear about Joan’s passing. I have known her and Joe for over 35 years as colleagues and dear friends. My heart goes out to Joe who loved, cherished and laughed with her for over 54 years.
