Joseph Raymond O'Hop Jr.

Joe was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on February 25, 1954. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Raymond O’Hop and Martha Francis O’Hop.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his daughter, Stephanie, and son-in-law, Shawn; his beloved grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, and Natalie; his sisters, Lois and Josie; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe received his master's degree in Entomology from the University of Georgia. He retired as a biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Joe had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed many adventures throughout his life. His hobbies included canoeing down rivers throughout Georgia and Florida and backpacking in Glacier National Park, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, and many other beautiful places.

Joe also loved woodworking and creating things with his hands. He designed and made beautiful dragonfly coat racks and key racks. He enjoyed laser engraving on wood, rocks, coasters, and other materials, creating intricate designs of dragonflies, fish, butterflies, owls, turtles, and other images inspired by nature.

Joe’s dragonfly coat racks, key racks, and laser-engraved creations were made with love and generously given to family, friends, and anyone who came into his life. Giving these gifts brought him tremendous joy. It was his way of giving a piece of himself to others and sharing his creativity and love.

Everyone who met Joe knew that he was a gentle soul. He was deeply loved by his family and many friends, and his kindness, generosity, love of nature, and beautiful spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Joe’s memory be made to the National Parks Foundation.
