Martin Joel "MJ" McElligott, age 56, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was born on July 31, 1968, in Oak Lawn, Illinois, to Deanna Klaub (née Diaz) and Joseph McElligott.
MJ was a devoted husband, father, and friend who cherished spending time with his family and engaging in his favorite pastimes—golfing, boating, and fishing. His compassion for animals and his passionate personality left an indelible mark on those who knew him. MJ was known for the strength of his presence and his ability to forge meaningful connections across his many circles of friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen McElligott (née Kennedy); his sons, Jakob Lambert and Joshua Lambert; his mother, Deanna Klaub; and his siblings: Michael (Kristine) McElligott, Mark McElligott, Erin (Becky) McElligott, Sean McElligott, Michalene (Marty) Thomiszer, and Merri (Charlie) Place. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews. MJ was predeceased by his father, Joseph McElligott; his sister Madonna McElligott; his brother Matt McElligott (Lauren); and his nephew Fritz Mulhausen.
A Memorial Service will begin at 1 PM on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Robert Toale & Sons Celebration of Life Center, 4310 Solutions Lane, Bradenton, FL 34211, with a Celebration of Life Reception to follow until 4 PM.
MJ’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and connection. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
