Michael Lee Yount

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Mike in Florida. In accordance with Mike’s wishes, he will be cremated. Family members were able to pay their final respects in Bradenton, Florida on Monday, April 7th.

Born on February 7, 1962, Michael was the son of Robert and Nancy Yount. He graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1980 and went on to work in a variety of fields. Mike was a natural born leader and after managing a local gas station and car washes, he became a manager at the delivery company, Pony Express. After they closed their doors, Mike tried his hand at professional painting before leaving his roots in Michigan to work in the hospitality business in New York and Massachusetts. It was there he discovered his love of cooking. His latest adventure was working as an over the road truck driver. This work took him to 48 of the 50 states across the country, but his heart was always rooted in the people and places he loved most.

Mike had a passion for sports and spent time coaching hockey with his Dad, sharing his love for the game with others. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, basketball, and hockey. Traveling brought him joy, but nothing compared to spending time with family and friends. Known for his free spirit, big personality, and infectious laugh, Mike left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is survived by his children Jeff Yount (Crystal) and Joe Yount (Jen), stepson Jason Zelenko (Marissa), and grandchildren Braxton and Braelyn Yount. He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Nancy Yount, sister Sue Hund (Patrick), nephews Ryan, Eric and Blake Hund, Cody and Kyle Yount, and Uncle Ron Horton. Michael was preceded in death by his brother David Yount, his grandparents, Albert and Ruth Yount, his Aunt Marge Zeltvay and Aunt Judy Eakin.

A celebration of life honoring Mike will be held in Michigan at a later date for family and friends to gather and share cherished memories of this remarkable man.
