Neldo Alexander Izquierdo, Jr., passed away at the age of 69 on August 13, 2025, in Bradenton, Florida, surrounded by his devoted family. His final moments were filled with the love and presence of his family.

Born on September 21st, 1955, in Iguará, Cuba, Neldo was the beloved son of Neldo Aldo Izquierdo and Isabel Marina Delgado, both of whom preceded him in death. Affectionately known as “Neldito”, he grew up alongside five siblings: Isabel “Beli,” Elvira “Boli” (deceased), Maria del Carmen “Carmensi,” Tomasa “Masi,” and Elio (deceased), each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Neldo’s childhood took him from Cuba to Puerto Rico in 1961, where he lived with his cherished foster parents, Teresa and Gustavo Bergnes (deceased), and foster sister, Vilma. In 1967, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he was emotionally reunited with his mother and siblings.

A gifted and hardworking student, Neldo excelled at Lane Tech High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in 1978. He began his professional journey in college with Commonwealth Edison (ComEd, later known as Exelon), where he built a decades-long career, rising through the ranks with integrity, dedication, and a quiet leadership that earned him the respect of many. He retired in 2012, having devoted his entire career to a field he truly loved.

While in school, he often spent summers visiting his foster parents in Puerto Rico and it was during one of his visits that Neldo met the love of his life, Elsa Rivera. The two married in 1978 and started to build a beautiful life together in Willowbrook, Illinois, where they welcomed their first daughter, Giselle, in 1980, followed by their second daughter, Vivianne, in 1982.

In 1984, the family moved into their first house in Bolingbrook, Illinois — a place where countless cherished memories and milestones were celebrated over 21 years. Later, they moved to Plainfield, Illinois, where Neldo and Elsa lovingly welcomed their son-in-law, Jonnathan Janssens, into the family in 2008, when Vivianne and Jon were married.

Neldo embraced the role of “Abuelo” with pride and deep affection when his grandsons, Dean (born 2009) and Caleb (born 2011), entered the world. His eyes lit up with joy when he was with them, and he became a steadfast source of love, wisdom, and playfulness in their lives.

In 2018, Neldo and Elsa moved to Bradenton, Florida, fulfilling a shared dream of living near their daughters and grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Neldo was known for his quiet demeanor, strong work ethic, and his computer and electrical knowledge. He made his family smile through his eccentricities and jovial love of corny “dad” jokes. He was the steady anchor in his family — a dependable, protective husband and father, and a loving grandfather. He showed his love not always through words, but through actions with every sacrifice made, and every quiet act of care. His daughters grew up knowing their dad would always be there, no matter what life brought; and Elsa, his beloved “Elsie,” always had in him a faithful partner and unwavering companion through all of life’s seasons.

Though his physical presence is no longer with us, Neldo’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy will continue in the stories told, the traditions honored, and the deep love he poured into his family.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

Estudiante talentoso y trabajador, Neldo destacó en la Preparatoria Lane Tech y obtuvo su licenciatura en ingeniería eléctrica en el Instituto Tecnológico de Illinois (IIT) en 1978. Comenzó su trayectoria profesional en la universidad con Commonwealth Edison (ComEd, posteriormente conocida como Exelon), donde forjó una carrera de décadas, ascendiendo con integridad, dedicación y un liderazgo discreto que le valió el respeto de muchos. Se jubiló en 2012, tras haber dedicado toda su carrera a un campo que realmente amaba.

Mientras estudiaba, solía pasar los veranos visitando a sus padres adoptivos en Puerto Rico, y fue durante una de sus visitas que Neldo conoció al amor de su vida, Elsa Rivera. Se casaron en 1978 y comenzaron a construir una hermosa vida juntos en Willowbrook, Illinois, donde dieron la bienvenida a su primera hija, Giselle, en 1980, y a su segunda hija, Vivianne, en 1982.

En 1984, la familia se mudó a su primera casa en Bolingbrook, Illinois, un lugar donde se celebraron innumerables recuerdos y momentos importantes a lo largo de 21 años. Posteriormente, se mudaron a Plainfield, Illinois, donde Neldo y Elsa recibieron con cariño a su yerno, Jonnathan Janssens, en 2008, cuando Vivianne y Jon se casaron.

Neldo asumió el rol de "Abuelo" con orgullo y profundo cariño cuando sus nietos, Dean (nacido en 2009) y Caleb (nacido en 2011), llegaron al mundo. Sus ojos se iluminaban de alegría cuando estaba con ellos y se convirtió en una fuente inagotable de amor, sabiduría y alegría en sus vidas.

En 2018, Neldo y Elsa se mudaron a Bradenton, Florida, cumpliendo un sueño compartido de

vivir cerca de sus hijas y nietos.

A lo largo de su vida, Neldo fue conocido por su carácter tranquilo, su sólida ética de trabajo y sus conocimientos de computadoras y electricidad. Hacía sonreír a su familia con sus excentricidades y su jovial gusto por los chistes de papá. Fue un pilar fundamental de su familia: un esposo y padre confiable y protector, y un abuelo cariñoso. Demostraba su amor no siempre con palabras, sino con acciones, con cada sacrificio y cada gesto discreto de cariño. Sus hijas crecieron sabiendo que su padre siempre estaría allí, sin importar lo que la vida les deparara; y Elsa, su amada “Elsie”, siempre tuvo en él un fiel e inquebrantable compañero a través de todas las estaciones de la vida.

Aunque ya no esté con nosotros, el espíritu de Neldo vivirá en los corazones de quienes lo conocieron. Su legado perdurará en las historias contadas, las tradiciones honradas y el profundo amor que derramó por su familia.
