Sheila Stallings Dunnington, 67, passed away on January 1, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida. Born on January 27, 1958, in Danville, Virginia, Sheila lived a life marked by compassion, devotion to family, and a deep commitment to helping others.
Sheila graduated from Tunstall High School in 1976 and went on to pursue her passion for healthcare at the Medical College of Virginia. In 1985, she earned her degree in Pharmacy—a career path that perfectly aligned with her lifelong desire to care for others. Her work as a pharmacist was not just a profession but a calling that reflected her generous spirit and unwavering dedication to service.
Family was the cornerstone of Sheila’s life. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Jonathan Scott Dunnington; her son, Joel Brian Dunnington; and her daughter, Meredith Wray Dunnington. Her love for them was boundless, unconditional, and evident in every aspect of their life.
Sheila also will be remembered by her siblings: sister Donna (Jeff) Rodden; brother Steve (Sheri) Stallings; and brother J.D. Stallings. Her warmth extended to her nieces and nephews—Sarah (Zach) Gibson with their daughter Louise Gibson; Rebecca (Austin) Eich; Paige (Matt) Shelton with their son Mattox Shelton; Blake Stallings (Jordyn) with their daughter Laney; John Stallings; Chase Stallings; and Brett Stallings.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, John Dewey Stallings and Faye Beggarly Stallings.
A beautiful woman of many passions, Sheila found joy in baking—especially preparing family and friends’ favorite recipes—and was known as a fantastic baker with an undeniable sweet tooth. She loved traveling and exploring history-rich destinations, often combining both interests into memorable adventures. The beach held a special place in her heart, offering peace, reflection, and an outlet for her free spirit. As a devoted Christian, she cherished time spent in Bible study groups, where she nurtured her faith.
Sheila also had a passion for tradition and sentimentality. Whether sewing blankets for the local animal shelter, crafting things for her loved ones, or planning family gatherings down to the last detail—always dressed in her signature Lilly Pulitzer—she brought warmth and color into every space she entered. Her home was full of laughter, jazz music, scented candles, the smell of dinner cooking, and, most of all, love, which made it feel full of her.
Her legacy is one of abundant love—for family, friends, animals, and even strangers who crossed her path. Sheila’s life was guided by kindness, purpose, and an unwavering belief in the importance of caring for others. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society.
May Sheila’s memory live on in the comfort of home, the peace of a calm ocean breeze, the warmth of the sunshine, and the gentle love she so freely gave—forever felt in the hearts of those who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 15, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Robert Toale & Sons Celebration of Life Center, 4310 Solutions Ln., Bradenton, FL 34211. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
