Stephen Douglas Federline, 73, passed away on July 23, 2024, surrounded by family at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice, Florida. Born on June 17, 1951 in Bethesda, Maryland, Stephen lived a life full of kindness and an unwavering positive spirit, touching everyone who knew him. Using Stephen’s favorite adjective, he was simply a “magnificent” human being to the end.
Stephen dedicated 35 years to his career at the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, where he was a strong and impassioned advocate for the environment. A graduate of Villanova University, Stephen's vibrant personality was well represented in his role as a cheerleader, reflecting his infectious enthusiasm and spirit. He remained a cheerleader for friends and family throughout his life, always brightening the spirits of those around him with his great smile, big hugs, and joyful presence.
Described as a kid at heart, Stephen loved to ski, play pickleball and golf, scream with joy on the front row of a rollercoaster, go on adventurous travels and, above all, celebrate the holidays with his loved ones. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, cherishing each moment whether it was a birdie on the golf course, a ray of sunshine on his face, a good meal (especially dessert), or a bike ride at sunset with his beloved dog, Peanut.
He is survived by his devoted sister, Beverly Gleba; his brother-in-law and friend, Paul Gleba; his loving daughters, Amanda and Megan Federline; his adoring nieces, Amy Dean and Christine Pagano; his extended family and friends; and his furry companion, Peanut. Stephen is preceded in death by his brothers, Richard, Larry, and Jim; his mother, Pearl Federline; and his father, James Federline.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Robert Toale and Sons Celebration of Life Center in Bradenton, Florida on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 12 pm. Stephen's legacy is one of endless positivity and the deep, lasting connections he forged throughout his life. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who loved him.
