You will be missed Grandpa but loved just the same till the day we meet again.  Until then it is good to know there is a little pice of you Grandpa in us all right down to the youngest Gay.

From the time I was 10 he was Mr. Gay.  When my sister Linda married his son Brad I became and extended part of his family and was always greeted as a “daughter” but still he was Mr. Gay.  For years he welcomed me into his home and never minded being called Mr. Gay until I turned 45....both he and Bette said it was time to drop the Mr and Mrs.  It was hard to change old habits but with his impish grin and strong bear hug he somehow made me feel that it was now right to change.  Every time I pulled into his driveway driving a Chevy, he forgave me with that same bear hug and a gentle tease and he would welcome me into his home to share stories and the stories were amazing.  In the last few months that Tony and I visited, we were blessed with the beginning stories of Alfie and Bette.  We realized we were witness to a truly “Happily Ever After” story and admired how strong love can truly be.  We marvelled at how, after so many years he still looked at his bride with a sparkle in his eye that was born the day he met her on their first date.  A true love story that spanned decades, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  A love that will live on forever in the legacy he passed on to his sons, their children and for generations to come.  Until we meet again, rest in peace my friend.  I will miss you...Mr. Gay.

There is no doubt that I am extremely sadden by the passing of my Gramps and that I am not able to be there with the family during this time, but I take comfort in knowing that Gramps is in a better place, having a beer with the big man himself.  When I think of Gramps I can feel his white beard scratch the side of my face as he gives me a big hug, and hear his voice say "heeeeeey trouble".  The Macarena dance will always have a special place in my heart, as I remember the time Gramps jumped up to dance with great enthusiasm and caused the knicks knacks on the dining room vanity to come tumbling down.  My grandfather was a great man, loved by all who met him but it was his love for my Nana that awed me each and every time.  The smile that came across his face when she was in the room never faded during their 60 years of marriage.  While he extended his heart to his entire family, he held a very special place in his heart for his "Dutch".  While my daughter will never get to really know him, I am happy that they were able to meet once and that my father will surely pass down the same great Gramps trait that my Gramps bestowed on me. I love you Gramps and will see you when I see you...but feel free to pay us visit now and then, but try not to scare the bejeezes out of us...we already have a few spirits in this house :)
