It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Beverly Porter at Brampton Civic Hospital at the age of 97 with his family by his side. Loving husband to the late Lorna Porter (nee Hepburn) for 67 wonderful years. Beloved father to Allan and daughter-in-law Cheryl, Sharon and son-in-law Roger, Janice and son-in-law Sid, David and daughter-in-law Cyndi and Leah and husband Tom. Cherished grandfather of Jason and Chelsea, Chris and Kim, Bethany and Jason, Daniel, Paul and Cristina, Stephanie and Noel, Jamie, Jacob and Sarah, Joshua and Natalie, and great grandfather of Sophia, Victoria, Tripp, Ivy, Mason, Blake and Brady. Dear brother to Donald and sister-in-law Sheila, Ronald and sister-in-law Lynne. Predeceased by brother Ernest and sister-in-law Yvonne and sister Carol and brother-in-law Jim (Wilford).
Beverly grew up in Oxenden, Ontario. He worked as an orderly at the Hamilton Sanitorium before enlisting in the Canadian Army for the Korean War. After returning he married Lorna Hepburn and started work at the Wiarton Airport, subsequently transferring to Toronto International Airport. Beverly was always fixing things, including the lovely home that he and Lorna provided for their growing family. Sons, daughters, friends and neighbours all benefitted from his handyman skills, vast knowledge and his willingness to share those skills. If there was a job to do Bev was there, asking for no recognition in return. Receiving the Good Neighbour Award speaks to the high regard he held in the community. That same generosity extended to work in the church, his active memberships in the Legion, the Korea Veterans’ Association and the Probus Club. His hobbies included travel, gardening, reading and fostering deep connections with his grandchildren.
Bev’s kind and gentle nature masked a man of great passions and diverse history: a soldier, a caregiver, a steward of the community, a loving husband and a family man. His quiet determination allowed him to overcome all obstacles.
A visitation for Beverly will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 4 – 8 pm at Andrews Community Funeral Centre, Bramalea Chapel, 8190 Dixie Road, Brampton, ON.
A funeral service will take place in the Chapel of the funeral home at 11am on Saturday, February 8, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Internment at Brampton Memorial Gardens (10061 Chinguacousy Rd, Brampton) immediately after the service. A reception will be held back at Andrews Funeral Home (8190 Dixie Rd) immediately after internment.
