She is predeceased by her loving husband Ronald Turner Mathews and son David.
Joyce will be remembered by the family she cherished; sons William (Helen) and Robert (Susan) and grandchildren David (Jovy) and Andrew.
Born in Montreal, she and her siblings moved to various places in Quebec and Ontario before finally settling in Toronto in her mid-teens.
After graduating from Sunnyside Collegiate, she held positions for a short time at a downtown law firm and Manulife Financial before attending Women’s College Hospital, enrolled in their nursing program.
It was during this period that she met the love of her life, Ronald Turner Mathews, who she wed in 1953.
They would raise three children together, William David and Robert and later move to Brampton where they would spend the remainder of their years.
She was very much a home-centred woman; some of her favourite activities included baking, knitting and sewing for the family.
Her spiritual beliefs were important to her also. Though she was raised in a loving home with good values, nevertheless she felt that something was still missing.
She discovered that something when she came to the Christian faith in her late forties. Sunday mornings would find her faithfully attending church along with her husband until age and infirmity forced them to finally discontinue.
Later, arthritis caused her health to further decline, requiring caregiver assistance.
Our gratitude extends to the wonderful healthcare workers at CBI and Community Healthcare. Thank you for your faithful empathetic service to our mother.
Friends and relatives are welcomed to Andrew’s Funeral Home 8190 Dixie Rd. in Brampton on Wednesday December 7 from 10-11 AM, service to follow.
God bless you Mom; we know you are safely in his keeping.
You will be dearly missed by all.
