I'm a 1st responder for Highlands East FD and was the first on scene at the accident. I was with Ian from the very start and only left him once he was in the ambulance. He was very composed and had a great sense of humour (we had our moments with laugh, even though it was a serious situation). In that short time with Ian, I could tell Ian was a strong, intelligent and good soul. That day in April will always be in my memory. As we approach Christmas my thoughts go out to Ian's family and friends.

I knew Ian from doing our Mod 1-5 PLQ together in Petawawa 2010 at 3 RCR....He was the funniest guy on course and I'll always remember his sense of humor.Please accept my deepest condoloscences for your sad loss. He will truly be missed.

TO THE RITCHIE FAMILY
                      I AM WRITING THIS MESSAGE WITH A HEAVY HEART AND THINKING OF HOW FOND I WAS OF IAN. IAN WAS A REMARKABLE YOUNG MAN AND WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR YOU. HE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO BE ASKED. I THINK OF HIM SITTING IN THE KITCHEN AND HIM AND I SIPPING CUPS OF TEA AND HAVING NICE LONG CHATS.
I ALSO KNOW HOW SPECIAL HIS SISTER LISA WAS TO HIM AND HOW THEY LOOKED OUT FOR EACH OTHER. 
NOBODY KNOWS WHY THINGS HAPPEN BUT THEY SAY EVERYTHING HAS A REASON AND I THING GOD KNEW IAN WAS A SPECIAL PERSON AND TOOK HIM LONG BEFORE HIS TIME.
IAN I WILL MISS YOU LOTS AND YOU WILL ALWAYS HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART.
I WON'T SAY GOODBYE JUST GOODNIGHT. LOOK DOWN ON US FROM TIME TO TIME AND SEE THAT WE ARE ALRIGHT.
