Beloved husband and devoted father, Mike was born in St. Catharines, ON and raised in Saskatoon SK. At the young age of 21, he journeyed back to southern Ontario where he met and married his partner in life, Margaret. They married on Boxing Day in 1964 and were to celebrate 54 years of marriage this December. Together they built their first and only home in Bramalea (now Brampton) in 1968. Mike was a lithographer (metal decorator) by trade and spent 30 years of his professional career at Continental Can and Crown, Cork & Seal. He became a by-laws officer at the City of Brampton and retired from the city following 15 years of service. He loved animals, to garden and travel, was well-read and an artist who excelled at drawing. He enjoyed all sports (especially hockey) and was a fixture at the local arenas during his son’s minor hockey and professional playing days. He was an avid fan of both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays.

Mike’s wife and children were his number one priority and the family home was truly his palace. It was here they proudly raised their family and hosted many social gatherings. He will be fondly remembered by long-time neighbours, family and friends, work colleagues, as well as the hockey community. He is survived by his wife (the love of his life) Margaret, loving children Tracey (Brett) and Michael Paul (Leah), cherished grandchildren Isabella and Michael, as well as his wonderful extended family in British Columbia, (Richard, Rnold), Alberta (Shelley, Stan, Jeff, Amy, Patrick, Kenny, Ralph), Saskatchewan (Bill), Ontario (Cathleen, Gary Jr.), and New York State (Patricia, William, Robert, Steven, Stacie). Mike Sr. is predeceased by his parents William and Nora, and his siblings Doreene, Rita and Gary.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor his life at the Andrews Community Funeral Centre - 8190 Dixie Road, Brampton (North of Steeles Avenue) 905-456-8190, on Tuesday, September 4th, 2018 from 6-8pm and on Wednesday, September 5th, 2018, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Celebration of Life following the mass at Bramalea Lions Hall, 45 Avondale Blvd, Brampton. If family and friends so desire, donations may be made to the Toronto General Peter Munk Cardiac Centre. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude the staff at the Toronto General Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (Dr. Heather Ross, Linda Belford, NP, Dr. Doug Cameron and all the nurses and staff from the defibrillator clinic and the in-patient cardiology floor) who truly went above and beyond in ensuring Mike’s care and comfort during his illness. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Bruce Herman and his entire staff and to the Toronto Grace Hospital palliative care team who provided exceptional care and comfort.

My deepest and most sincere condolences on the loss of Michael. Every time he came into the Dental Office he was always so bright and chipper. We always had the best conversations about the grand babies and kids and Hockey!! My heart aches for you. He was truly a fantastic man in every sense of the word.
No words can ease the pain of loosing him, but i hope the comfort of your family and dearest to you can ease the pain during this difficult time.

Joe and I meet "Big Mike" and Margaret when they came down to visit Mike and Leah. What fun we had laughing, swapping stories and drinking a little wine. Some people just bond on first meeting..... that was true of us. We tried to get together every time they came south. Full of life and fun "Big Mike" will be missed by us, all who knew him and his loving family. Rest in Peace with Christ.
