My condolences to Nicholas family and close friends. I met Nick in 2003 at Ocho Rios high school. Nick and I were close, we would hang out with mutual friends back in Jamaica. Years went by and we reconnected on Facebook in 2016.  I was in Toronto and so was he. We would spend hours on the phone catching up to the good old days. Nick always wanted his own food truck or open his own restaurant one day. He was full of ideas. Life got busy for both of us and we lost contact. Just last year we reconnect again talking about life and the good old school days. I will forever miss you Mad frass. I love you. R.I.P

honestly, only you would understand where i’m coming from. you were the first guy to actually treat me like a lady and a friend. craziest guy I knew yet gave the best life advice and was always there for me even when i took it for granted. I miss you man, so much.

The first weekend of September, 1999, Munro College. This was the first time I met Nicolas Francis. All of us first-years gathered in the dining hall for the orientation weekend’s talent show, a type of ice-breaker event where we could all state who we were, where we came from, and show a special skill or talent if you so desired. I have no recollection of what my “performance” was, but when Nick took the stage, announced his name and flared his large nostrils at the audience saying, “You see how mi nose-hole big?” the crowd erupted in laughter and cheers. Someone shouted out the name of a memorable Nintendo character, Donkey Kong. That night he walked into that hall as Nicolas, but he left as DK, and I knew I wanted him to be my friend.

We did not end up in the same dorm, but we did the same form room. From there we solidified our friendship, him a bit of a country boy and me the city boy. We had a love for Agricultural Science, and he taught me a lot whenever we went to the farm. Even how to roast hearts and gizzards after we had slaughtered the chickens. We were never in a rush to get back from the farm, as we both equally hated Spanish, which was the session right after.

Needless to say, DK was may partner in crime, my paring-p, one of my best friends. I can go on and on with all the escapades we have been on, including hauling a table from the dining room out to the bush so we could cook and eat in style. I always had the feeling that we were the outcasts who found and understood each other.

Whoever truly knew Nick knew he had his demons, but he was also an exceptionally beautiful and soft soul. He loved to share and help in anyway that he could. He wanted to be seen and understood by others. He deeply valued loyalty, brotherhood, and family. It is sad that he has left us so soon, but I am glad that his inner turmoil has come to an end. Rest in Peace my brother.

Nicolas Francis (aka Nic, DK, Reagan) and my son Mathieu attended Munro College, a Jamaican boarding school, and became childhood friends. Their bond led me to meet DK’s mom, Ava, and we became like sisters. Mathieu calls him DK, a name I adopted too.

On trips to Munro, DK, a lanky, bright-eyed boy with a wide smile, greeted me with tight hugs, saying, “Hi Auntie Betty.” After fifth form, they parted—DK to Ochi, Mathieu to Kingston, then Canada. Both loved computers and served in the Munro Cadet Corps.

When DK joined HEART Training Institute for IT studies, I was asked if he could live with me in Kingston. I hesitated, worried about parenting a teen not my own, but I gave him a chance. DK fitted in like my child, following rules without repeat, excelling in school, and passing with flying colors. He returned to Ocho Rios, employed.

A skilled cook, DK became our chef, mastering curries and teaching me to make perfect omelets—a secret we shared. He loved his mom and sister dearly, strengthening my bond with Ava, whom I message daily. Recently, DK and I video-chatted for 25 minutes, concerned for my health and needed assurances.

Tears fill my eyes as I can’t travel to Toronto for his farewell. I’ll miss you, DK, but you’re in my heart. I thank God for our time and bid you eternal peace, my son. Auntie Betty (Davis)

In the depths of our pain and sorrow, the Lord is intimately close to us. He not only understands our brokenness but also has the power to rescue us from the deepest heart pain. Ms Ava,  may the Lord God comfort and give you strength and peace in this difficult time. 
I feel and understand your pain, and I want you to know that you are not alone in this.

I will always remember you as  a nature lover. As kids growing up you would always catch lizards on grass straw and chase us around the house. You would go fishing, shooting birds with the catapults with your uncle not far behind. You were full of life and loved to hold a vibe. You loved to cook and laugh and enjoy life as you saw it fit. Saying  RIP is something I never thought I would say to you 🥹. Fly high nephew 🕊

I love you from you were formed in my womb. It's hard to accept that you are not here anymore. But I'm living with the comfort knowing that you are at a better place 🙏🌹

My deepest condolences to the families, we love Nicolas but God loves him best. We may not understand now and why the situation, but take comfort in our hearts as we know God is in control better. I remember growing up together with grandma all the Good times.

I remember this day like yesterday. You are one of the most fun person, you always make me laugh. I miss you so much there is no words to explain it ❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰

Even though, we'll continue to cherish the lovely memories,laughter and cheers that we had  but it never going to be easy with just acceptance so may our lives be filled with what was and how it's gonna be knowing that you would want us to take nothing too serious but just smile awhile and give our face a rest raise our hand to the one we love the best then shake hands with those near by and greet them with a smile. Sleep well my first nephew and like you always do because we never knew that it was your time to go.

Nicolas who is known to his brothers from Munro as DK was always a pleasure to be around. We’ve met for the first time on the Coke Farquharson dorm and as members of 1st form we banded together. It was a pleasure to have met you and know those memories shared with everyone who you’ve touched will forever remain.

DK, from our days at Munro College, you were always a vibe — joyful, full of laughter, and a light in every space. You made school feel like home, turning even the toughest days into moments of joy.

Though time never allowed us to reunite after graduation, every conversation we shared, every memory from those Munronian days, will forever be cherished. It hurts that we never got that chance to link up again, but know that you left a mark that distance and years could never erase.

Rest well, my brother. You will never be forgotten.

A week before I heard the news you came across my mind and I didn't get a chance to reach out.
