I didn’t personally know Gus very well; but I know him well enough to join in a Celebration of Life. God bless us everyone!

I was lucky to meet sensei in Rota Spain Naval Base on 1995. When I attended his Aikido classes I was fascinated to see him on the tatami, the way he teached "nice and easy" as he used to say, but every action or technique he performed was precise and full of "KI" always in a good mood, always patient and gentil. I am very grateful to him and very proud of considering him my sensei and my friend. I will never forget "Gus" Rodriguez.
All my love, Jaime Vargas.

From AIKIDO Puerto Real, Cádiz, Spain, our most sincere condolences to Rodriguez family.
Gus was a grate friend of all of us, respected and beloved by all the AIKIDO group and specially by my family.
He always was very kind and generous sharing his grate knowledge with us.
I consider him a grate friend very close even in the distance.
We will never forget you sensei and we will keep you in our mind and prayers.
Much love from your friend Tino, and family.

I took Nozu-sensei's calligraphy class at USF a few years ago. I really appreciated Rodríguez-san's help in our classes.

I live in Japan now and I recently started doing calligraphy again because one of my students gave me a calligraphy set. I wouldn't have been able to learn the basic skills without his help. I'm so thankful that he took the time to help with our classes.

Rodriguez-san helped Japanese Calligraphy class at USF and shared his passion for calligraphy with us since its start in 2012. He always came to the classroom early, set up the desks and ink for the students, and then cleaned all the individual desks after class. I really appreciated his help all the years. He was always nice and humble to me and all the students. He also brought nice souvenirs from Puerto Rico when he traveled there in every March and brought us candies for the Valentine's day and the end of each semester. He was one of the most kind and considerate persons I have ever met.
Due to the pandemic, I could not invite him to the calligraphy class this semester. It was the last day of class today, and I was thinking of sending him some pictures of our students with their calligraphy works before learning about his sad and shocking news from Ohtani-sensei this evening.
R.I.P Rodriguez-san. I will miss you, but you will always stay in my heart.

Sensei Rodriguez had an incredible impact on my life and he will forever be missed. He was my sensei in many ways and a dear friend, he was the definition of respectful, kind, and inspiring. I can honestly say he is on my list as one of the greatest people I have had the pleasure to know in my life.

When I showed up to my first duty station in Rota, Spain, I was a 20 year old with no direction. Mr. Rodriguez was my civilian manager. He turned into much more than that over the few years I was there. He was my mentor, my sensei and my friend. He took me under his wing, gave me direction and core values to follow in my life. My heart goes out to Kathy and the family and all those, like me, whose life is better for having crossed paths with such a great man.
