Allan Hendell Vigilant, age 49, of Tampa, Florida passed away on Friday July 19, 2019. Hendell was born on December 2,1969 in LaPlaine, Dominica to the late Catherine and Boniface Vigilant. He was the last born of 12 children. Sisters: Bertina, Brinette, Accinter, Regina and Alicia (Deceased). Brothers: Mathias, David (Deceased), Fitz, Curtis, Elkin, Jude.
Hendell graduated from the Dominica Grammar School in 1987 excelling in Principles of Business.
During his years in LaPlaine he actively participated in several organizations:
He ventured into Calypso competitions in the community and was crowned twice as Calypso King. His stage name was "De Exorcist"
Youth Co-ordinator/President of Amethyst Youth Group (aimed at keeping youths active in community service) 1981-1998
Rural correspondent for the National Radio Station - DBS Radio in Dominica for the South-Eastern District 1992-1993
Assistant extension officer with the Dominica Banana Association 1995-1996
He served as President of the PTA at Jones Beaupierre School 1997-1998
Member of the Village Council 1997-1998
He operated his own Barber shop
He played the Organ for both the Youth and Adult Choirs (A note from Father Vincent Esprit affirms that Hendell was the leader of the prayer group, his love for the church, his love for people and most of all his love for Jesus was unquestionable. While in LaPlaine, Hendell gave his all to the Church which he understood as the Body of Christ.)
Hendell migrated to St. Thomas, USVI in 1998.
He worked as Banquet Captain/Supervisor of Food and Beverage at Marriott Frenchman's Reef for 4 years.
He later moved to Tampa in 2002 and worked for Tampa Marriott West Shore for another 3 years.
His last job was with Computer Generated Solutions, INC. He worked with CGS from 2005 until his death.
