Anwar "Beta" Baksh was born on September 13, 1948 to Kadir and Halliman Baksh in Fyzabad, Trinidad. He was the third child of six siblings: Abidh, Rahiman, Salima, Raffik, and Zamina. Anwar married Jasmin Seunarine on October 24, 1975. He had two children, Elizabeth and Nicholas and two grandchildren, Arya and Elijah. He came to the United States and landed in New York in 1971 with $50 in his pocket. Stranded at John F. Kennedy Airport, he sat not knowing what to do or where to go. He met a kind gentleman who asked if he was from Trinidad and what he was doing in the airport. Upon saying he had no where to go, Mohan took him home. In an effort to repay his kindness, Anwar promised he would help anyone he could if he was ever able to do so. There are countless people that Anwar has helped throughout his life; however, this one is a favorite. Anwar met a couple from South Africa on honeymoon in New York. Through casual conversation, he found out they had no where to stay and no money left. He purchased planes tickets for them to stay with he and his family in Florida for three months. He kept in contact with this couple over the years.
Anwar trained as a respiratory therapist, but soon started his own business in home healthcare and later began a sleep lab. He could talk about his C-PAP machine endlessly. He enjoyed photography and cricket and he traveled the world seeing most of the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, India, the Phillipines, Bali, and Singapore. But his favorite place of all was at home in Trinidad eating Julie mangos and drinking cold coconut water straight from the coconut. His favorite hobby was growing pepper plants to make the hottest and tastiest peppersauce.
Anwar was loved by everyone who crossed his path and he shared his heart with each one. His greatest desire was to keep his family together.
