She is survived by her husband of 52 years (Coach) Tony Saladino; sons, Tony Saladino III (Cheryl) and Thom Rodgers (Debi); daughters, Misty Saladino Feist (Todd), Bette Nunez and Linda Trujillo; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces, and her pet cat, “Fluffy.”
She was born in Havana, Cuba as an American citizen and came to the USA at the age of 20. She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church in Brandon. Her hobbies included cooking, painting, gardening, playing dominoes and lady bugs. She was affectionately called, “The First Lady of Baseball,” “Hospitality Hostess Extraordinaire,” and “Matriarch of the Saladino Family, Friends and Community.”
She was a First Ballot Hall of Fame wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and was an inspiration to so many so often through the years. She will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Saladino Tournament Fund through the Hillsborough Education Foundation (HEF). The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Stowers Funeral Home, 401 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Nativity Catholic Church, 705 E. Brandon Blvd., Brandon. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 N. US Highway 301, Thonotosassa.
