Betty was like a second mom to me growing up. Robyn and I spent so much time playing dress up in all of her old clothes, shoes and make up! She would yell at us then let us keep going while she would laugh at all of the old stuff we would dig out. She was the first person to take me fishing. She taught me how to put my own worm on the hook. She was the first person to let me drive a car. Rest easy Betty.

Betty was a force of nature, a woman who lived her 81 years to the fullest, leaving an lasting mark on all who knew her.  She had this uncanny ability to light up a room with her presence, armed with a witty remark and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. But Betty wasn't just funny; she was also incredibly loving and wise, always ready with a warm hug or a piece of sage advice when you needed it most.

One of my fondest memories of Betty perfectly encapsulates who she was. It was the day we helped move her in with her daughter, and my very best friend, Robyn. After a long day of packing and heavy lifting, Betty knew just what we needed!  She suggested we play penny poker and drink margaritas.  She proceeded to charm us – and clean us out – for hours.

Betty had this wonderful way of making every occasion special. I recall her birthday celebration at a Mexican restaurant one year. She waltzed in, stylish as ever, even grasping her walker for assistance.  She right away ordered her favorite margarita, and held court like a queen.  She looked fabulous in the big sombrero!  But what struck me most was how she made everyone around her feel special. She had a gift for really listening, for making you feel like you were the most interesting person in the room.

As Robyn's mother, Betty was a rock – supportive, loving, and always there with open arms and an open heart. But her maternal instincts extended far beyond her own family. She adopted all of us, Robyn's friends, as her own. She celebrated our successes, comforted us in our failures, and always, always made us laugh.

To Robyn, and to all of Betty's family and friends, I want you to know that the world is a little less bright without Betty in it, but it's infinitely richer because she was here. She lives on in the stories we tell, in the laughter we share, and in the wisdom she imparted.
