Dekino was born on January 24, 1974, in Goldsboro, NC. She graduated from Atwater High School in Atwater, CA, in 1992. Following her graduation, the family relocated first to Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC, and later to Brandon, FL. There, Dekino continued to share her dedication to childcare and her love for children by working at several daycare facilities, including La Petite Academy and Baycrest Academy.
Butter’s life was beautifully centered around family. She was a proud daughter, sister, auntie, and friend, but her happiest role was being “Mom” to her beloved Maveya Leona. To know her was to love her, and her spirit will never be forgotten. She lived life to the fullest, laughing, dancing, and bringing joy to every room she entered. Fiercely loyal and endlessly loving, Dekino was a bright light whose warmth reached not only her loved ones but also everyone she met, including strangers.
Dekino developed pancreatic cancer in 2024, living a full life before the disease. She passed peacefully at Tampa General Hospital on August 10, 2025.
Dekino is survived by her mother, Mary D. Wilson of Brandon, FL; her daughter, Maveya Wilson-Kornegay of Brandon, FL; her brothers, Tarvoris (Fred) Wilson-Kornegay (Trina) of Brandon, FL, and Daniel Wilson of Riverview, FL; and her sisters, Tacoma (Wilson) Yarrell (Emanuel) of Duncan, SC, and Kanesha Testerman of Hinesville, GA. She also leaves behind a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard E. Wilson of Brandon, FL. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 22nd, at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am., followed by the service at 12pm. A reception will take place immediately afterward at the Clarence W. Byers Sr. Chapter 83, DAV, 115 W. Clay Ave, Brandon, FL 33510.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Dekino’s memory may make donations to support her beloved daughter, Maveya, as she was the light of her life. Please contact the family for donation information.
The family of Dekino extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff of Moffitt Cancer Center and Tampa General Hospital, as well as to their many friends and loved ones, for the care, support, and compassion shown during this difficult time.
