

Floyd, Derek Chester, 43, passed away June 26, 2021 in a car accident. He was born in Tampa but lived in Brandon for the last 10 years. He’s been reunited with his beloved grandparents, Evelyn and Chester Straughn from Tampa, and Lucy and Sydney Floyd from Huntington, W. Va.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Linda Floyd of Brandon, and by his beloved and adored son, Gavin Derek Floyd, of Riverview. He is also survived by his brother Michael Floyd of Birmingham, Stevie Floyd of Tampa, Mike Floyd of Plant City and sister, Michelle Korkoleo of Brandon. He also left behind several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Derek was a decorated police officer and a commercial diver. He was a very sweet, kind, humble, caring and gentle soul who really loved his family. He was funny, smart and easy going and loved to have a good time. He loved bikes, motocross, jogging, music and animals, especially dogs. He had really loved his dog, Tucker. But the absolute love of his life was his son, Gavin, who he was so proud of. Derek will be missed more than he could have ever imagined. We take comfort in the fact that he is now flying WTFO.... Braappp…. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hillsboro Memorial at 2323 W. Brandon Blvd. in Brandon, Friday, July 9, 2021, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.
