

Donald Francis Mackenzie, 91 years old, Lithia Florida died on November 9, 2021.He was born on December 19, 1929 in the Bronx, NY, son of David and Agnes Mackenzie. Donald passed after facing multiple serious medical issues in the past year. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Donald managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his beloved family as possible. On his final day, he was with his daughter Donna, son Douglas and grandson TJ. They shared that Donald's passing was peaceful and dignified, and were so grateful for the care he received from the staff at St. Joseph's Hospice in Tampa. He graduated from All Hollows HS in NY, and continued his education at St. John's University, NY where he was a star baseball and basketball player. He graduated with a degree in business. He served in the US Army, but did not see battle, however was stationed in Italy and played for the American baseball team. The Italians lovingly called him the "Bambino" (Babe Ruth). In 1954 he married the love of his life, Joan Teresa McBurnie. He raised four children with his cherished wife in Smithtown, NY, and his family meant everything to him. He had an incredible work ethic and worked hard to support his family and provide a college education for each of them. He was very proud that all of his children became successful adults, with families of their own. Donald was a kind and gentle man and had a strong faith. He was compassionate, and was known to volunteer for Meals on Wheels with his daughter Donna, and contribute to numerous charities.
He is predeceased by his wife, Joan Teresa, and brother Joseph Mackenzie; survived by his sister Margaret DiGregoria and adoring children, Maureen Mackenzie (Rich), Shoreham, NY, Donald Mackenzie (Diane), Lithia, Florida, Donna Mackenzie Walker, Lithia, Florida, and Douglas Mackenzie (Kobie), York, PA, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grand children.
