PLOURDE, Edward H. “Pappy”, 83, passed away on February 11, 2016. He was a native of Tampa, son of the late Henry and Alice Rodriguez Plourde and grew up in Ybor City and Six Mile Creek area. He worked on the family's dairy farm, Spanish Dairy. He graduated from O.L.P.H. and attended University of Florida before being drafted and serving two years in the U.S. Army in the 3rd Infantry "The Old Guard". He attended the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he studied photography. He later joined his friend, Tom Taggart in business as professional photographers. As an expert witness in photography, he decided to later join the Tampa Police Department, where he is credited for introducing the use of color film in crime scene photos. During his nearly 30 year career, he started in the Identification Section and then as a patrol officer. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and was responsible for supervising the training of new officers for many years. He earned the nickname "Pappy" at the police department, due to his caring, compassionate and generous nature, especially with his troops. He was very proud of his family's accomplishments and of those who'd worked for him. He is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter, Kimberly Plourde-Torres and husband, Pablo; son, Jeffrey; grandchildren, Jeremy and Alicia Torres. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, February, 16, 2016 at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice in Ed’s name.
