VAN HORN, Edward Russell, born to John and Loa Van Horn on October 31, 1929 entered into rest April 13, 2014. He came to Tampa Florida July 4, 1940 with his father and brothers, John and Richard Van Horn. He attended Woodrow Wilson, Jr. High School and Plant High School. He also attended the University of Tampa and received a Bachelor of Science degree. Ed learned to fly with his brothers at the age of 13 at Peter O’Knight Airport. On March 16, 1946 he joined the Army Aircorp and went to Scott Field, Illinois for radio school and then to Eglin Air Force base. He was an original member of the Air Force and worked as a crew chief on the Generals plane. He left the military and came back to Tampa where he worked temporarily at Grand Central Garage. He met and married Mary Wells on August 24, 1949, this union produced two daughters, Candice (Barry) Greer and Sunny (Mike) Ploch. Ed later married Molly Freels Dickey, a widow on June 15, 1968 – She had four sons, Mark (Michelle), Michael, Matt (Ella) and Martin (Chris). Their union produced a daughter, Annie (Craig) Lightsey, which he delivered at home. Ed was a 30 year member of Buckhorn Springs Golf and Country Club. He retired from Sears Roebuck as Department Manager 1950-1989. After retirement he started a family business Community Jewelry and Pawn. He is survived by all of his children; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; countless nieces and nephews. A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
