

Elmer Vincent Sublett went to his rest on Sunday, December 23, 2018. 15 years to the day that his beloved wife of 60 years Ella Mae preceded him. His brother, Charles and two sisters, Stella and Margie, also preceded him. A loving husband and father of three, Elmer was 98 years young.
Elmer was born on June 7,1920 in Tonganoxie, KS to Edward and Cora (Blaine) Sublett. He grew up at the Guardian Angel Orphanage where he was raised by the Oblate Order of the Sister’s of Providence, an order of African American nuns from Baltimore Md.
During the depression years, Elmer joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he worked for several months before joining the United States Army. He was stationed at Camp Sibert, Alabama and Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where he proudly served as a member the 10th Calvary a part of the Famed Buffalo Solider units.
After his service during World War II, he came home and worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He owned a Dry cleaning shop before finding work at Leavenworth City Hall as a custodian. After serving the City of Leavenworth in his capacity as a custodian he retired.
On May 15, 1943 he married Ella Mae Hammell Sublett. They raised two sons, Elmer Jr., Ronald Sublett, and a daughter, Veronica (Sublett) Morales.
Elmer had a love of gardening, which won him recognition and awards from the City of Leavenworth for Lawn beauty. He was known for his sense of humor, positive attitude and cheerful nature. He loved to sing and if you knew him for any length of time he would sing to you at some point. He leaves behind six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
