Gerald is preceded in death by parents, Daniel and Edith Messner; grandchildren, Melissa Pastrana and Steven Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jo Ann; children, Kim (Robbie) Taylor, Cathy (Dallas) Cottrell, Shelly (Mike) Messner, Sabrina Hast-Witmer; brothers, Larry (Barbara) Messner and Timmy (Donna) Messner; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was a long time resident of Tampa. He spent many years as a roofer and his daughters have many great memories about the long days on the roof. After his roofing days were over, he retired from Hillsborough County School System after 20 years. He was a dedicated family man, loved fast cars, and was a talented woodworker. His passion was being outside taking care of his plants and relaxing in his gazebo while listening to country music. Jerry valued his childhood friendships that he nourished over the years. Jerrys absolute best friend, jokester, and partner in crime, Jo Ann, shared a beautiful life together and cherished building an everlasting legacy.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, October 1st from 5pm to 6pm at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd Brandon FL 33511. A memorial service will begin at 6pm.
