Mrs. Gloria C. Fletcher, affectionately known to family and friends as Gloria, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, at The Crossings Assisted Living Facility in Riverview, Florida. She was 87 years old.
Gloria was born on November 9, 1938, in Plant City, Florida, to the late Louise Tolbert and Andrew White. She later moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in February 1956.
Gloria was first married to Alexander "Sonny" Corbert, and from this union her beloved son, Kevin, was born. As a devoted single mother, Gloria worked tirelessly to provide a loving home and bright future for her son, who remained the love of her life.
Through a special government initiative designed to create opportunities for talented young African American women, Gloria began her distinguished career with the Social Security Administration as a Processing Assistant. During her 29 years of dedicated federal service, she worked in Baltimore, Maryland; New York; and Tampa, Florida, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout her career.
While living in Baltimore, Gloria met and married Michael Fletcher in June 1967. Together they built a loving family and raised their children, Kevin and Cheryl, in West Hempstead, New York. After their children were grown, Gloria and Michael fulfilled their dream of returning to Florida. Michael designed the couple's dream home, which was built in the Tampa area. Sadly, he passed away shortly after its completion.
Following her retirement from the Social Security Administration, Gloria combined her love of people and community by establishing a successful business as a Relocation Specialist. Through her work, she assisted countless individuals and families in making Tampa their new home and adjusting to their new surroundings.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Fletcher, and her beloved son, Kevin Corbert.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sister, Sandrea "Sandi" Morrisey (Dwight) of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her special goddaughter, Chandra Brown (Vincent) of McDonough, Georgia; her bonus daughter, Cheryl Fletcher Aubrey; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and countless cherished friends whose lives were enriched by her warmth, wisdom, and generosity.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of LifePath Hospice and The Crossings Assisted Living Facility in Riverview for their exceptional care, kindness, and dedication during Gloria's final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM. Gloria's sister, Sandi Morrisey, and goddaughter, Chandra Brown, will preside over the service. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate Gloria's remarkable life and legacy.
Flowers are welcome and gratefully accepted. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made in Gloria's honor to Metropolitan Ministries or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, charities that were close to her heart.
